Arkansas Outdoor School Summer Day Camps
Summer vacation is approaching quickly! Your kids will be out of school soon. What will they do this summer? You want them to have fun and you want to keep their minds and bodies active. You want them to be part of a positive community. You want your kids to put down their electronics and engage in the world around them.
At AOS Summer Day camp, your loved ones will get all of this and more! We are all about learning-by-doing in a dynamic, fun, and kid-focused atmosphere. Our camps are staffed by outdoor education professionals with a passion for connecting kids with nature.
We are located at the C.A. Vines 4-H Center in West Little Rock. We have more than 220 acres of fields, forests, creeks and a lake for summer fun. Check out our camp description to learn more!
Below is a description of the different camps. Every camp will include rock climbing, canoeing, archery, and swimming.
Realizing that families have differing abilities to meet the costs of our program, AOS offers a three-tier fee program. This is a voluntary system: you have the freedom to pick the tier that is most affordable for your family. Of course, all campers will receive the same care and instruction, regardless of the price tier you choose.
Tier 1: This tier represents our historically subsidized rate and does not reflect the full operating cost of camp.
Tier 2: This tier represents a partially subsidized fee.
Tier 3: This tier more closely reflects the actual operating cost of a camp, including materials costs, staff salaries, and fees to the 4-H Center.

Do you seek out adventure, love the thrill of new and exciting experiences? Well, we have a camp just for you. Fast paced, high energy activities are the order of the day for this camp. Rock climbing on our 40 foot outdoor tower, riding on a zip line through the trees, orienteering, and canoe racing are just a few of the fun things we have in store for our campers. Come have an adventure!
Discovering the wonders of nature is what this camp is all about. Hiking through the woods, exploring streams, and digging in the dirt are just a few ways we will experience the amazing world of science here in the Natural State. Topics will include reptiles and amphibians, plants, insects, mammals, birds, geology and astronomy. It's a natural for a good time.
This camp is for 13-15 year olds who have "aged out" of the regular day camp program but still want to have an engaging, fun and active summer experience. This camp will feature age-appropriate activities and challenges, including a full day in our ExCEL program. For more details see www.uaex.edu/excel Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity for your teens.
Science is fun! Come discover why. We will investigate, discover, explore and experiment all session long. We’ll show you how to use everyday items to answer questions such as 'can you cook food using the sun’s power' or 'can you make a rocket out of a 2 liter bottle.’ Add our regular "core" activities of canoeing, rock climbing, and daily swim time, and you have a great opportunity to combine fun, friendship, and learning.
Living in Arkansas provides us with many chances to go out and explore nature. Have you ever wanted to learn how to backpack, camp, cook a meal over an open fire, or even how to survive in the wild? If so, sign up for OLS Camp. This camp is more than just a walk in the park. We will learn about tools and techniques for navigating, surviving and thriving in the woods. Include archery, animal identification, fishing, rock climbing, canoeing and hiking.
Come play all day! Whether it’s Ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, kickball, water balloon volleyball, tennis, basketball or other games from around the world, this camp emphasizes cooperation, sportsmanship, communication, and fitness. If you like to play sports and games of all kinds, then this is your kind of camp.
Do you like to build and be creative? Then plan on coming to Makers Camp this summer. Using ideas from engineering to the arts, we will take on and build a wide variety of projects from simple to complex. Makers Camp embraces the idea of igniting the spark in our campers to create, collaborate, and develop their sense of wonder and explore how science and imagination are intertwined. Please be aware, there is an additional fee of $30 to cover supplies.
If baking, grilling, sautéing and most of all eating good food sounds like a great way to spend your week then this is your kind of camp. At Cooking Camp, you will learn different tricks and techniques you can use in the kitchen on the grill or even over an open fire. Come have a delicious experience at camp. Please be aware, there is an additional fee of $30 to cover supplies.
Green is the color of nature, from the trees and grass to the food we eat. It is all around us. We will explore the ideas of what it means to be green in the 21st century. From gardening and composting to recycling and reducing our carbon footprint, your campers will dive into learning and fun in this hands-on, eco-based outdoor experience.
In our last camp of the season we are bringing out the Greatest Hits. Throughout the summer we will ask every camper to vote for their favorite activities. These will be included in our Greatest Hits camp. It promises to be an awesome time full of fun and adventure. Come see which activities make the cut.
